Soggy Bottom 2 – Vets report

January 18th, 2010 by Radders

My objective for the day was to go out and test the new heart! (after his operation earlier in the year – Ed)  Sarah (the wife – Ed) wanted me to go out all guns blazing as it was a long journey and it needed to be worth the drive.

The course was very sticky (and slippery) and the two long climbs really did test the old ticker to almost full capacity (max hr 163 – usually hr256!).  The downhills were good and I took the opportunity to overtake the climbers on these (and most of them were too frighted to go hell for leather).

Sorry to Pete, nearly knocked him off on the “two way” section.  Must get some indicators fitted to the old Canondale!

A really enjoyable day and a good start to 2010 (better than a training ride anyway).

The last lap was a real challenge.  I could see Rich up ahead on the last climb but couldn’t catch him as my legs had popped by then.  Still, the burning subsided when i cooled my legs/feet down washing my bike off in the river.  Always prepared boys; bucket, brush as Muc Off, all essential parts of the race day kit.  I’ve done too many Soggy Bottoms but that’s another story…….

Kit all white and clean thanks to my WAG and the cheapo washing powder from the French hypermarket!
